Over the past 2 weeks, I have had the pleasure of visiting cuernavaca to learn Spanish and to better understand the culture. While I have been here, I have also had the pleasure of eating a ton of great food. Here are a few restaurants that I have been to so far.
El Barco Pozoleria: El barco is a restaurant that is known for its Pozole a traditional Mexican soup. They have multiple locations around Cuernavaca and we went here for dinner during the week. When we got there, we were seated outside and ordered immediately. I decided to get a lemonade and a classic white Pozole with chicken and avocado.

Overall:
Overall, I was very happy with the Pozole at El Barco. Before going to this restaurant, I had never had Pozole before so I did not know what to expect. But, even though I didn’t know what it was supposed to taste like, I really enjoyed the flavor of the broth as well as the chicken. One thing I did not like about the soup was that the broth was a little too thin for me and kind of hard to eat at the end because it was the only thing left. Overall though, it was a great soup and I will definitely be getting it again soon.

Marco Polo: Marco Polo is an Italian restaurant located right across the street from the Cathedral in downtown Cuernavaca. We again came here for dinner but this time, it was with a big group. Upon entering the restaurant, the first thing that I sensed was that it had an old world Italian vibe which I loved. Upon sitting down, we instantly ordered. I decided to order a lemonade and bolognese pizza.

Overall: overall, I was very happy about he pizza I got at Marco Polo. When I first ordered this pizza, I was a little skeptical. But, it sounded interesting so I decided to order it. When it arrived, I instantly knew that I made the right choice. The meat mixed with the flavors of the sauce and cheese was amazing. One thing I didn’t like about this pizza was that the crust was not cooked enough and a little bit too thick for my liking. But overall, I was very happy with the pizza and Marco Polo overall.

Quesadillas Rutilo and Quesadillas Gigantes: Quesadillas Rutilo is located in an outdoor market near where I am staying in Cuernavaca. Here, they serve up quesadillas with chicken on hand pressed tortillas. They also have a variety of other dishes which I am hoping to try in the upcoming days. Quesadillas Gigantes is located at the Xochimilco boat docks in Mexico City. Here, the are serving up giant quesadillas with chicken and cheese on blue corn tortillas.

Overall: Overall, both quesadillas are super good. They both had fresh Oaxaca cheese and marinated chicken, melted together into a fresh tortilla. I personally prefer the quesadilla at Quesadilla Rutilo. I Prefer this quesadilla because the chicken had more flavor and the tortilla was really fresh; You could see the lady pressing the dough for the tortillas right before they went on the grill. I also prefer this quesadilla because it came with salsa verde and crema which added a nice depth of flavor to it. I personally didn’t really like the blue corn tortilla at Quesadillas Gigantes. I highly recommend trying one of these quesadillas if you have the chance and both are amazing,

Final Thoughts: So far, all the restaurants I have been to in Cuernavaca have been great. I have also loved the food so far and cannot wait to try more traditional dishes soon.
