Funky Elephant Thai Food and The Daily Driver Bagels

This past weekend, I Had the pleasure of visiting two amazing restaurants, Funky Elephant Thai food in Berkeley and The Daily Driver in the Dog Patch in San Francisco.

Funky Elephant Thai: This past Saturday afternoon, I had the honor  of visiting this 1 Michelin star restaurant on the outskirts of Berkeley. Upon arriving to this restaurant, I could instantly feel the hipster, cool vibe. The restaurant itself is sitting on a platform and is a  very small space with only room for a few tables and the kitchen. Most of their seating is outside and that is where we ended up sitting. Upon sitting down, we looked at our menus and decided to order a few dishes to share. In total, we ordered 4 dishes: Green Papaya Salad, Crispy Rice Salad, pad Thai Old Skool and the Green Curry Beef. I Also decided to order a Limeade with Butterfly Pea.

Overall: overall, the food at Funky Elephant Thai was great. One thing I loved about this restaurant was that they were able to use fresh and local ingredients to elevate Thai cuisine to a new level. One thing I did not like about the food was that it was super spicy. although I like some spice in my food, the spice of the food at this restaurant was a little too much for me and took away from the flavor of the food. Also, because of the spice, I was not able to eat as much as I wanted which is too bad. But, besides the spice, I Loved what they are cooking at Funky Elephant Thai and I Think they have a winning formula.

The Daily Driver: This past Sunday morning, I had the pleasure of visiting this brand new bagel place located in the Dog Patch in San Francisco. Upon entering the store, I Instantly realized that the vibe of this place was also very hipster as it looked like a warehouse turned into a bagel shop. Right in front of you when you enter is the cash register and a huge hanging menu board. Behind the cash register, there is an area where they boil and bake the bagels fresh everyday. Also, if you look above as you enter, you notice that the building has very tall ceilings and that on both side there are upstairs seats with views of below. Overall, I Loved the space and I wish more restaurants would have a vibe similar to it. Upon entering, we immediately stepped up to the cash register and ordered. I decided to order a Bacon, Egg and Cheese sandwich on an Everything Bagel with an Orange Juice. My mom decided to order a Smoked Salmon bagel with cream cheese and onions.

Bagels At The Daily Driver

Overall: overall, I loved the bagels at The Daily Driver. You could see the bagels being made down below and the bagels definitely tasted fresh. I Loved the everything bagel as it was perfect for a sandwich and seasoned perfectly. I also really liked the bacon, eggs and cheese with the bagel although I wish the bacon was a little more crispy and the cheese was a little more gooey. One thing I Loved about this sandwich was that it did not fall apart and was not messy at all.  The Orange Juice was fresh squeezed and full of pulp which made it taste amazing. Overall I was very happy and definitely plan to return to the Daily Driver again soon.
