The House- San Francisco

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting The House, an asian fusion restaurant in the North Beach District of San Francisco. This tiny restaurant is serving up amazing asian food with a local and seasonal flair to it. My visit a couple weeks ago was my first time dining at The House and I was pleasantly surprised by all of the amazing dishes that we ate.

Ordering and First Impressions-

We arrived to The House right when it opened for dinner at 5:30 and within 10 minutes of sitting down, the restaurant was completely full. We were able to look at the menu briefly but then we were bombarded with a huge amount of specials (4 appetizers and 4 entrees). Furthermore,  we were told that we would only have 1 hour to eat as that is their policy. The policy makes sense as it is a small restaurant but I really wish that we would have had more time to order our food and enjoy it. Since we only had 1 hour. We decided to order. We all split some appetizers and then all got our own main dishes. Our shared appetizers were the Steamed Shrimp and Chive Dumplings as well as a special Poke Dish. For my entree, I ordered Wasabi Noodles with Steak.

Although I was a little bit annoyed by the 1 hour policy, the food more than made up for it. We started with the appetizers. The steamed shrimp and chive dumplings were a hit at our table and were gone in about 2 minutes. The dumplings  had a nice shrimp flavor and a crispy skin. Although they were not my favorite dumplings ever, they were really good and I highly recommend getting them. We also ordered some Tuna Poke which came with a crispy rice. The poke was very good but the crispy rice was the star of the show as it added a great texture to the dish. After the appetizers came the entrees. When I first ordered my dish, I did not really understand that the noddles really had wasabi as I was forced to order quickly. Thus, when I took my first bite of the noodles, I was instantly surprised by the short hot burn of the wasabi. Luckily, I like spicy foods so it was not that big of a deal for me. The steak with the noodles was cooked really well and to my liking- medium rare. I also really liked the noodles as they had a nice asian flair to them. I had never had noodles with wasabi before so this was a new thing. After eating the entrees, we had dessert. My chocolate cake with coffee ice cream was a nice treat to end a good meal. Although it was not the best dish of the night, it was good enough to go with the rest of the meal. The coffee ice cream had a nice coffee flavor to it but it was not too strong. I also really liked the caramel at the bottom as it paired really well with the cake. Overall, strong dessert but I liked the Steak with Wasabi Noodles more.

Overall:

To conclude, I had a great experience at The House. The food was all very good and I love that they are able to include seasonal and local flavors into most of their dishes. I also really like how they have a big amount of specials as it adds to the ever changing nature of the experience. One thing I did not like was the 1 hour policy but other than that I had a really good time. Thanks so much to the team at The House for a great meal!
